Bruce Fairweather, Phd

Hi, I’m Bruce.

I am a safety engineer who concentrates on controlling loss (human and otherwise) by managing risk.

My employment, deducation, and experience have centered aroun the field of safety.

During my 22-year US Navy career, I served on 6 ships, starting as an engine room electrician, and eventually reaching the rank of engineering officer.  Ashore I taught at the Naval Officer Candidate School and the Navy’s firefighting and damage control school.

After the Navy, I earned two degrees – a B.S. in Energy Systems Management from SUNY and an M.S. in Science & Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – while working in field operations for New York State Electric and Gas.

I retired from the utility industry after 15 years and began consulting as a safety engineer for IBM where I provided safety training to its employees.  I earned a Ph.D. in Safety Engineering from Kennedy Western University.

Today I contract for insurance companies in need of loss control and risk management assurance services.  I also perform electrical inspection, consulting, and fire underwriting services.
